LPL: First Friday for Families

First Friday for Families

May Exhibit - "Time for Tea" by Aaron Beitzel

The exhibit opens May 4th at 5:30pm and will be displayed throughout the month in the library’s gallery.

Using watercolor and ink as a medium, the main objective of this exhibit is to tell a story in each piece through strong character poses and exaggeration. The style is meant to be a combination of cartoony fine art that can be found in a children's book with a timid amount of raw subject matter.

About the artist:

Local Lancaster County resident, Aaron Beitzel, has graduated from the Art Institute of York Pennsylvania with an associate degree in animation and from Animation Mentor: The Online Animation School with advanced studies in character animation. Aaron's passion for animation, illustration, and fine art is inspired by the visual creation of stories through children's books and feature films. Aaron has kept his imagination open to limitless ideas that can only be created through art.

When he is not working on illustration, Aaron, enjoys finding new adventure, martial arts as a 2nd degree black belt, running, going to the gym, watching movies and making life as fun and spontaneous as possible. He is thankful for his supportive family and friends who are a huge blessing in his life.

June Exhibit - "Childhood Story" by Sadradeen Ameen

The exhibit opens June 1st at 5:30pm and will be displayed throughout the month in the library’s gallery.

The artistic universe of Sadradeen Ameen is inhabited by magical, primitive representations of creatures all bathed in brilliant ceremonial light. In the words of the artist: “My creatures are spiritual imaginations. They represent a constant source of wonder and a return to the spirit of the earth. They are ceremonial creatures, dreamlike shapes and magical totems. Whether bird, fish, insect or human, they signal a return to original calmness, to a womb where there is no end to sensuality and enjoyment, a return to a place where the essence of things can be found."

Iraq, Sadradeen Ameen’s country of origin, has an environment which was and remains primitive and untamed. The animal element dominates in tales, legends, symbols, superstitions and religious rituals. Ameen is both drawn to and haunted by the magic of the creatures he has seen. He depicts them both as bodies and as metaphors in his art.

About the artist:

Sadradeen Ameen is a native of Kirkuk, Iraq. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad and has lived in Lancaster since 2001. He has exhibited internationally in Iraq, Belgium, Jordan and the Netherlands, England and Spain as well as in the United States in California and locally at the Lancaster Museum of Art.
